His Noodliness believes very strongly that sharing what you have with others is one of the best ways to worship him.
It should be assumed that you need to take care of your own basic needs first. As they say on the plane: “Please put on your own oxygen mask before helping others.”
However, once your needs are met, it’s time to start sharing with others. Not with a few charity acts that you spend millions on Public Relations to promote! That model of giving back is not worthy.
Instead, give back without promoting it or running ads to congratulate yourself.
Example: Oil companies make billions of dollars in profit off the destruction of the environment. They “give back” (according to their PR departments) by “researching” alternative fuels. However, studies of their financial records show that they actually spend one hundred times more promoting their “research” than they do on the actual research, and that none of the research is going anywhere due to lack of funding and lack of initiative.
In other words, if you spend all your money promoting your charity (think Goodwill or Salvation Army) but you spend no money on helping people; then you do not have the moral high ground.
His Noodliness asks that you help your fellow human quietly, and without any fanfare. It should be something you do because you want to, not because you want praise.
